Sailing: After the bitter disappointment of losing the wind coming into Cochin, Green Dragon has made an encouraging to the third leg of the Volvo Ocean Race. The Irish boat, fourth in the overall standings, is among the leaders as the fleet makes it's way from the Indian port bound for Singapore.
The Irish crew placed seventh in the second leg after losing the breeze in the last 24 hours by taking the decision to stay away from the coast.
With that tactical error in mind, they opted to hug the shoreline as the fleet departed and had taken the lead by the early hours of this morning.
The fleet has bunched in the interim with both Telefonica Blue and Ericsson 4 claiming first and second but Green Dragon is hanging in there in third.
"After losing 3 boats by being too far offshore in the last day into Cochin it was a case of once bitten twice shy for the Dragon," explained sjipper Ian Walker.
"We had no intention of letting anyone inside us and even gybed in at 90 degrees to our course at one stage to be best place to catch the end of the sea breeze and the start of the breeze off the land."
