The Green Party candidate for the European Parliament elections in Northern Ireland tonight withdrew from the contest.

Single mother Ms Marie Perry had been expected to lodge her nomination papers for the June 10th election by the deadline of this Thursday.

But a Green Party spokesman confirmed she would not be putting her name forward because of a sporting injury.

It is understood Miss Perry was injured during a Gaelic football game at the weekend.
