The German Green Party is this week raising with the German government its opposition to bail for Ms Roisin McAliskey, who is six months pregnant.

Ms McAliskey is being held in Holloway Prison while the courts hear extradition proceedings against her to face charges; in Germany arising from the IRA's attack on the Osnabruck barracks last year.

Ms McAliskey, who is a severe asthmatic and suffering from a stomach ulcer, denies any involvement in the attack and has not been granted bail because of objections from lawyers representing the German government.

The Green initiative follows an approach from their Irish party colleague, Ms Patricia McKenna MEP, who said yesterday that Ms McAliskey "is getting totally inadequate attention for her health problems".
