The Green Party has criticised the National Roads Authority over a full page advertisment in today's Sunday Times newspaper. The party claimed the body spent "tens of thousands of euro" on the full-page advertisment and asked if it was the "best use of taxpayer's money."
The advertisement states the argument in favour of the controversial M3 motorway which environmentalists claim will damage the historic the Hill of Tara, in Co Meath.
Green Party Transport spokesperson, Eamon Ryan TD, today criticised the NRA's use of taxpayer's money to promote the M3 Kells to Clonee motorway.
"Is this really the best use of taxpayer's money? There a number of fora that the NRA could use to explain and justify its decision to build the M3 motorway route. The Green Party will now ask the Chairman of the All Party Oireachtas Committee on Transport to invite the NRA to come before the Committee to detail its reasons for building the motorway."
Mr Ryan also called on the NRA to address the possibility of a rail link to Navan which, he said, would "seriously reduce the need for car transport commute."
He claimed there was clear evidence of a lack of joined up thinking for an integrated and balanced National Transport policy which includes public transport as a solution to solving commuters needs.
