A Green Party delegation is protesting at a nuclear power station on the Welsh coast to underline opposition to a new generation of nuclear power stations in Britain.
The Wylfa nuclear power station is due to close in 2010, but party leader Trevor Sargent said the Government must secure guarantees that no future nuclear reactors will be commissioned and that adequate steps are taken to clean up nuclear waste.
"Today we also met with members of the Welsh Anti-Nuclear Alliance and agreed to work jointly so that communities on both sides of the Irish Sea can look forward to a safe non-nuclear future.
"We heard that the legacy of Chernobyl still haunts this area as some Welsh lamb is still contaminated from the 1986 nuclear disaster."
Mr Sargent pointed to the alternative sources of power generation. "The Green Party visit coincided with the week when the large 25 megawatt off-shore wind farm, with eight wind turbines, opens on the Arklow bank.
"To replace Wylfa would take between 250 and 260 such wind turbines and Arklow bank already has permission for 200 such wind turbines. The answer to the nuclear industry is blowing in the wind," he said.
