GREYHOUND RECYCLING and Recovery has been awarded the Green Bin contract for the greater Dublin area which will now service more than 360,000 households.
The contract, which will take effect in the new year, will see at least 100 jobs created, bringing the firm's number of employees to 450.
Dublin local authorities have also created a multimillion-euro recycling facility in Ballymount, Co Dublin, which will be operated by the Greyhound organisation.
"We are delighted with the opening of our new recycling facility which will now enable us to accept all plastics in the green bin," said Matt Twomey, chairman of the Dublin region waste steering group.
"This is a further demonstration of our commitment to providing householders with an efficient, modern and cost-effective service."
Customers will keep their existing bins, but the new year will see them become rebranded with stickers to signify they are part of the Greyhound operation. Collection dates will not be changed without notification. The initiative will see the induction of a website, www.greenbin.ie, dedicated to green bin services.
