An unknown group attacked the Russian embassy in Minsk today hours before President Vladimir Putin was due there for a regional summit, Interfax reported.

The report cited eye-witnesses as saying that two people had tossed a grenade over a stone fence surrounding the Russian embassy early today.

No one was reported injured in the attack, but the blast left a crater some 17 centimeters (seven inches) wide in front of the building.

Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko immediately called an emergency government meeting to coordinate a police response to the attack, Interfax said.
