US president Barack Obama today admitted he will miss his self-imposed deadline of January for for closing the Guantánamo Bay military prison in Cuba.
Mr Obama had initially set a January 22nd deadline for closing the detention centre.
In an interview with Fox News today, he refused to give a new date but said he expected it to shut within the next year.
Mr Obama said he was not disappointed about missing the deadline, but realised that things moved slower in Washington than he expected.

The President said the timeline for closing Guantánamo will depend on cooperation from the US Congress.
About 220 detainees remain at the prison, and the administration must decide how to prosecute some in US courts and turn others over to other countries.
