A security guard was injured this morning when he was hit with a hammer during the robbery of a van delivering cash to a bank machine in Drogheda.
It is estimated around €80,000 was taken during the robbery by two men in Marian Park at 10.40 a.m.
The two raiders, one of whom was armed with a sawn-off shotgun, used a white Toyota four-wheel-drive vehicle to escape after the attack. It was found abandoned on the Platton Road. Gardaí believe the men may have been picked up by a third man in a brown car seen in the area.
The man was taken to the Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not thought to be serious.
