PARIS - ALGERIA'S most ruthless Muslim guerrilla group has declared war on a rival fundamentalist movement it says has gone soft in its struggle against Algerian authorities, an Arab newspaper said yesterday.
The commander of the Armed Islamic Group (GIA), Mr Abou Abderrahmane Amine, said in a statement that it was time to fight the armed wing of the Islamic Salvation Front (FIS).
The spiritual leader of Algeria's armed Islamic Salvation Army (AIS), Mr Aissa Lahileh, has surrendered to the authorities in eastern Algeria, the daily En-Nasr reports.
