A new guide published by the Western Health Board (WHB) lists 30 hotels, restaurants and cafes in the west which offer a non-smoking environment. Some are tobacco-free, while others offer a separate walled room, comprising not less than 50 per cent of the total seating area.
The participating establishments have promised to keep their premises smoke free until December 31st this year, but many have made a long-term commercial decision, according to the health board.
They include the Doonmore Hotel on Inishbofin, Co Galway, Newport House, Newport, Co Mayo, Rosleague Manor in Letterfrack, Co Galway, the Station House Hotel in Clifden, Co Galway, Achill Cliff House and Restaurant on Achill Island, Co Mayo, Dun Gibbons Inn in Clifden, Co Galway, Benny's in Castlerea, Co Roscommon, Scotty's in Middle Street, Galway, and the inappropriately named Smokey Joe's in the concourse of NUI, Galway.
Produced and designed for the WHB by Mr Tony Dervan of Atlantic Enterprises in Knocknacarra, Galway, the guide is available from WHB offices and centres in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon; from county libraries; general practitioners; and Bord Failte tourist offices.
