Drinks industry group Meas has unveiled a booklet aimed at dispelling myths surrounding alcohol and fitness.

Drinks industry group Meas has unveiled a booklet aimed at dispelling myths surrounding alcohol and fitness.

Meas, which is funded by the drinks industry, has produced Alcohol, Sport & Youto provide information on how and why alcohol affects the body and affects performance during exercise.

The guide dispels commonly held myths such as the claims that fit people can drink more without getting drunk or that hangovers can be sweated out of the body.

People are recommended to avoid alcohol 24 hours before playing or training, to drink lots of water, not to drink alcohol before treatment if injured and to eat before drinking.

Over 10,000 copies of the booklet will be inserted into competitor registration packs for the Dublin City Marathon on Monday.
