A teacher who indecently assaulted pupils may be publicly named next week if one of his victims says he does not object to being possibly identified as a result.
The 66-year-old man has admitted abusing two boys - one at a school in north Dublin in the 1950s and one at a midlands school in the 1960s.
Sentencing in the case had been adjourned until yesterday. However, it was again adjourned until next Wednesday after legal argument over whether the teacher should be named in newspapers. The victim of the midlands offences has already said he has no objection to being named. Judge David Anderson has ruled that he should not be named in relation to this case. However, he was not satisfied that he should enjoy anonymity in relation to the north Dublin offences. He wanted the victim in this case to be consulted as to his view on the question of publicity.
