Garda investigations are continuing into the death of the son of a former president of the District Court, who was found dead with a gunshot wound.
Mr David Macklin (25), of Shannonbridge, Co Roscommon, son of the the late Judge Oliver J. Macklin, was found dead in his home where he lived with his mother on Saturday morning.
Chief Supt Michael Ring rose, who is heading the investigation, described the death as tragic.
He said a post-mortem examination was inconclusive but confirmed that Mr Macklin had received a gunshot to the head.
He stressed he was not carrying out a murder investigation, but some aspects of the investigation had not yet been completed.
The post-mortem was carried out yesterday in Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe, Co Galway, by the Assistant State Pathologist, Dr Marie Cassidy.
It is understood the Garda investigation now centres on finding the gun. Local people said Mr Macklin, an artist, who lived with his mother, had been in the village of Shannonbridge with friends on the night before his death.
It is understood some of Mr Macklin's friends returned to the house, which stands on the edge of the Shannon, just inside Roscommon, for a party.
That party broke up without incident early on Saturday morning, and some hours later the young man was found dead in the house.
