Gypsy King put up an amazing performance to underline his Vodafone Derby claims in the Dee Stakes at Chester today.
The Aidan O'Brien-trained runner came from last to first under Kieren Fallon after running green and making a very slow start.
He made his move turning for home to deliver a telling run down the stands side and just pip outsider Im Spartacus by a short head.
Gypsy King totally the break and Fallon was forced to scrub along early on, and he had to settle in last place on the rail.
Passing the stands for the first time, Gypsy King showed his inexperience with a couple of fly-jumps, but Fallon got him back on an even keel as Excusez Moi set the pace.
He was made to work hard for the win though, with Fallon making his move out of last place round the outside turning for home.
Jamie Spencer kicked on to take it up on Im Spartacus approaching the final furlong, but Gypsy King launched a determined run and just got up to in the shadow of the post.
Zalongo was a further length and a quarter back in third.
