Us special envoy Mr Richard Haass is to arrive in Northern Ireland today for meetings with the political parties on the latest crisis in the peace process.

His talks come before round-table negotiations taking place at Stormont on Thursday as part of efforts to restore the power-sharing institutions.

On the two-day visit, Mr Haass's sixth to Northern Ireland, he is expected to also meet Northern Ireland Secretary Mr Paul Murphy and Chief Constable Hugh Orde.

The Ulster Unionist group due to meet Mr Haass will include former ministers Sir Reg Empey and Mr Michael McGimpsey and MPs Mr Jeffrey Donaldson and LadySylvia Hermon.
