Building work in 54 primary schools is to begin in the next 15 months following an annoucement by the Minister for Education today.
Mary Hanafin said work on 37 new schools and 17 major extensions would proceed to tender and construction.
She said the projects between them would deliver more than 10,000 permanet school places and modernise existing facilities for 5,900 pupils.
The schools on the latest list are in counties Carlow, Clare, Cork, Donegal, Dublin, Galway, Kerry, Kildare, Kilkenny, Laois, Limerick, Louth, Mayo, Meath, Offaly, Sligo, Tipperary, Waterford, Westmeath, Wexford and Wicklow.
"The increasing use of generic repeat design schools means that many of these schools are likely to commence construction in 2007," Ms Hanafin said in a statement.
