Denmark's Anders Hansen defied torrential showers and two dropped shots on his back nine to win the Volvo PGA Championship by five strokes today.

The 31-year-old Dane, five ahead of the field overnight, carded a closing round of two-under 70 to finish on a tournament record aggregate of 19-under 269 for his debut victory on the European Tour.

Three-times champion Colin Montgomerie, who battled with a painful back injury throughout the week, returned a 67 to share second place at 14-under 274 with Argentina's Eduardo Romero, who shot a 68.

Hansen, whose previous highest finish on the European Tour was a tie for third in the French Open three weeks ago, eclipsed the previous championship mark of 18-under-par 270, set by Bernhard Langer in 1987 and equalled by Montgomerie in 1999.
