A CORONER has told an inquest into the fatal shooting of a 23-year- old man that there have been “so many shootings in this country, it’s hard to understand how it can continue like this”.

Coroner Dr Kieran Geraghty made his comments at an inquest into the death of Jason Egan, who was shot as he was locking up his Centrepoint newsagents’ shop at Ladyswell Road, Mulhuddart on the evening of October 23rd last.

Mr Egan, Dromheath Avenue, Mulhuddart, Dublin 15, died of multiple gunshot wounds to the trunk, a postmortem by Deputy State Pathologist Dr Khalid Jaber found.

Insp Kieran McEneaney of Finglas Garda station told the opening of an inquest into Mr Egan’s death at Dublin County Coroner’s Court that Garda inquiries into Mr Egan’s death are ongoing.
