Derry City 1 Bohemians 0
Derry City moved off the bottom of the eircom League Premier Division tonight with a hard-fought victory over Bohemians at the Brandywell.
The home side were boosted by Peter Hutton's return to the starting line-up but were lucky not to have gone behind in the opening seconds - Fergal Harkin's effort rebounded off the woodwork.
Derry, though, remained composed and took the lead themselves on 17 minutes when defender Sean Hargan hammered home Eddie McCallion's fine cross.
They took that lead to the half-time break but came close to relinquishing it midway through the second period.
Robbie Doyle wormed his way in behind the Derry defence but the threat fizzled out when he was adjudged to have handled in the penalty area.
Gary Beckett came agonisingly close to doubling Derry's lead but his rasping effort was superbly deflected onto the cross bar by visiting keeper Shay Kelly.
Jason McGuinness should have equalised two minutes from time but he fluffed his lines and Derry held on for the win that sees UCD relegated to bottom.
