Irish Life (Retail) plans to employ 150 people in a new customer services facility which will occupy over 20,000 sq ft in Firmabair Business Park just outside Dundalk on the main Dublin to Belfast Road.

It is expected that the 150 jobs being created will be filled by people from the locality.

Making the announcement, the Tánaistesaid the opening of the facility would compensate the area for the loss of the Guinness plant which is due to close.

"The Government is committed to encouraging greater investment in job creation in regional locations and today's announcement is a direct result of Enterprise Ireland's stated commitment to work with Dublin based companies to look at regional locations for planned expansions," Ms Harney said.

The move outside Dublinfollows Bank of Ireland's decision last year to set up a customer care centre in Kilkenny and, more recently, the opening of a new facility by Parthus Technologies in Limerick.

Chief Executive of Irish Life (Retail),Mr Denis Casey, said the company had worked with Enterprise Ireland to identify suitable sites outside the capital.

"We were attracted by the high quality pool of available labour in Dundalk and the relative proximity of the site to the company's Dublin head office," he said

"Our business has experienced very rapid growth in recent years and we have ambitious plans for the future. So it's vital that we are able to ensure a stable supply of skilled labour to help us achieve our goals."
