No deal was struck between Fianna Fáil and the Progressive Democrats to save the Coalition in advance of today's statement by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern, the Minister for Health, Mary Harney, insisted yesterday.

Ms Harney said she hoped the matter would be fully dealt with and disposed of by the end of today.

Asked whether greater time should be given for members from other parties to question Mr Ahern, she said: "That's a matter for the Government whip and other whips to agree for tomorrow."

Responding to a question about reports that the PDs and Fianna Fáil had come to an agreement to ensure the Government's survival, she said: "That's not true. The only deal we have is the Programme for Government."
