Padraig Harrington moved on to the shoulders of the leaders at the WGC-CA World Golf Championship at the Doral's Blue Monster in Miami with a five-under-par 67.
Only a bogey five at the last prevented the Dubliner from joining Charl Schwartzel in the clubhouse on 12 under, though the South African was later joined by compatriot and overnight leaders Ernie Els.
Like Harrington, Schwartzel shot a 67, but Els mixed five birdies with three bogeys for a 70.
Round of the day went to German Martin Kaymer, whose 66 came courtesy of eight birdies and moved him into sixth, one behind Bill Haas and two adrift of Robert Allenby, who is breathing down Harrington's neck after a birdie at the last.
Graeme McDowell improved to four under after he birdied the last two holes of his second round for a 68, before carding another 70 after a quick turnaround.
There was no respite for Rory McIlroy, however, who managed just one birdie on his way to a second consecutive 73.
