Golf – World Rankings:Pádraig Harrington paid the price for a poor week at the Honda Classic in Florida after the three-time major winner slipped to 13th in the latest world rankings.
Harrington, who just made it into the weekend at Palm Beach Gardens, never found top gear at any stage in the Honda Classic and eventually had to settle for tied 40th on four over.
He was joined on that mark by Rory McIlroy after the 20-year-old also struggled to get to grips with the PGA National layout. The Holywood golfer remains unchanged in the latest standings at ninth and is now the only Irishman inside the top 10 after Harrington dropped from 10th to 13th.
Graeme had promised so much at the same event but his week petered out with a disappointing final round 76 to finish two over in a tournament he was in contention for at the midway point.
The 30-year-old dropped one place from 49th but remains just inside the world’s top 50. The Irish trio move to Doral Golf Resort in Miami for this week’s WGC-CA Championship.
Camilo Villegas was a deserving five shot winner over Anthony Kim at Palm Beach yesterday to claim his third PGA Tour win. The Colombian was one of the players to leapfrog Harrington as he jumped nine places to 12th.
Irish Open champion Shane Lowry is 92nd while Darren Clarke slides to 108th with Peter Lawrie 148th and Gareth Maybin 150th.
Tiger Woods is still top of the pile by a considerable margin from Steve Stricker and Phil Mickelson, who hold second and third respectively.
