David Hasselhoff and his wife have been seriously injured following a motorbike accident in Los Angeles.

The actor and his wife, actress Pamela Bach, both suffered broken bones in the accident on the city's West Side, police said.

Strong winds were blamed for the crash on a busy street. The bike struck a pavement and threw Hasselhoff against a roadside pole, while Bach was dumped in the gutter.

Fifty-year-old Hasselhoff was treated at the UCLA Medical Centre for possible lower back fractures, a broken rib and cuts and bruises.

Bach, 39, was treated for a fractured ankle and a broken wrist.

"They are in a stable condition," said Warren Cowan, said a spokesman. He said the actor had been forced to cancel trips and interviews to promote his forthcoming film, Baywatch: Hawaiian Wedding.

Hasselhoff, best known for his role as Baywatchlifeguard Mitch Buchannon, also starred in the 1980s television hit Knight Rider.
