A former heroin addict who attacked his neighbour with a hatchet because the music at his daughter's Confirmation celebration party was too loud faces sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court.

Christopher Hill (43), of Oak Green, Royal Oak, Santry, had earlier called Paul Brierton's wife and other partygoers "scumbags" and threatened to burn the victim's house down "with your kids in it".

Hill pleaded guilty to assault causing Mr Brierton harm at his home on February 28th, 2004.

Judge Patricia Ryan adjourned the case to allow Hill time to raise more money to offer Mr Brierton as a token of his remorse.

Michael Bowman, defending, said his client had €5,000 in court but wanted to sell a property to get more money together that "would more adequately reflect the injuries sustained by the victim".

Mr Bowman said Hill "unreservedly apologised" for the suffering he caused to the Briertons.

Garda Maria Moran told Róisín Lacey, prosecuting, that Mr Brierton was left with a cut to his scalp which required 10 stitches.
