Former Taoiseach Mr Charles Haughey is to appear in the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court later this month when a date will be set for the hearing of charges against him of obstructing the McCracken tribunal.

Yesterday in Dublin District Court, Judge Thomas Fitzpatrick ruled there was a sufficient case for him to stand trial, following legal submissions from the State and Mr Haughey's counsel.

If found guilty by a Circuit Court jury, Mr Haughey could be fined up to £10,000 or get two years' imprisonment.

Mr Haughey, of Abbeville, Kinsealy, Co Dublin, is charged on two counts of obstruction of the tribunal by claiming he had not received payments from Mr Ben Dunne.
