Hayes chosen as EEA chairwoman

Ms Kate Hayes has been reappointed as chairwoman of the Employment Equality Agency

Ms Kate Hayes has been reappointed as chairwoman of the Employment Equality Agency. She was first appointed chairwoman in 1992 and served a five-year period as vice-chair of the EEA board. However, her new term is unlikely to be a long one. When equality legislation is enacted by the Oireachtas early next year the EEA will be replaced by an Equality Authority, which will have a wide remit. The Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform, Mr O'Donoghue, will then have to appoint a chairperson for the authority and chief executive. The chief executive of the EEA is Ms Carmel Foley.
