Mr Ambrose Kelly, whose company the tribunal was told last week funded the Irish Consortium with which Mr Liam Lawlor was associated, submitted documents to the inquiry yesterday.
Mr Kelly produced some financial documents in relation to Ambrose Kelly Eastern Europe. Mr Lawlor said at the tribunal last Wednesday that the Irish Consortium was funded by Ambrose Kelly Eastern Europe, which funded the consortium's office rent in Prague, and disbursed whatever the outgoings were. He said it was through that company that the Irish Consortium's outgoings were met. Yesterday, Mr Kelly was called to the witness-box. Mr John Gallagher SC, for the tribunal, asked Mr Kelly if he could identify the company to which the documents related.
Mr Kelly said: "They are the expenditure of a BES (Business Expansion Scheme) company, chairman, Ambrose Kelly Eastern Europe, organised by me to develop work in the new emerging central Europe."
Mr Gallagher said the accounts related to Ambrose Kelly International (Eastern Europe) Ltd. Mr Kelly had submitted accounts and financial statements for years ended April 30th, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998 and 1999. There was also a draft financial statement for the Prague office in relation to February 1995. Mr Gallagher asked about financial statements for other than the years ended 1995.
Mr Kelly said there were probably other ones but this was the most comprehensive one he could get. He would be submitting other documents that afternoon.
Mr Gallagher asked if he had been asked recently by any person or on behalf of any company to produce to them a schedule of payments in relation to the company in question, particularly in the last three months. Mr Kelly said not that he knew of.
The chairman adjourned the matter until tomorrow.
