The Health Service Executive - South Western Area, today renewed calls to the mothers of two babies abandoned last year to come forward and claim their children.

A newborn baby boy was found wrapped in a sports bag at a bus stop on Clanbrassil Street on 28th February last year. He was taken to the Coombe hospital while appeals were made for his mother to claim him.

A woman subsequently came forward but proved not to be his natural mother. The baby, who nurses called Sean, is still in Foster care and celebrates his first birthday this month.

On April 17th last year, in a separate incident, a 3-day old baby girl was found abandoned outside a church in Leixlip, Co Kildare. Carers called her April and she too is still in foster care.
