Tea or coffee are a regular part of the day for many of us - switching on the kettle marks a break from work or an impending chat with friends.
The good news is that biochemical compounds in tea and coffee may well benefit our health as adults, as discussed in this 2013 paper.
Tea consumption, especially green tea, is associated with significantly reduced risks for stroke, diabetes and depression, and improved levels of glucose, cholesterol, abdominal obesity and blood pressure,” write the authors.
Meanwhile, coffee can also deliver a health kick, but the authors note that at high doses caffeine can “increase anxiety, insomnia, calcium loss and possibly the risk of fractures.”
So enjoy the occasional refreshing cup, just make sure you don’t use it to wash down biscuits and cakes…
