Fit bursts of activity into your day

Life is busy, but that’s no excuse not to be active. There are plenty of ways to introduce short ‘bursts’ of activity into your day.

Obvious tactics include taking stairs instead of lifts and escalators, and walking from A to B rather than getting into a car.

You can also develop some new habits - make it part of your morning routine to stretch (maybe do this straight after brushing your teeth), do some jumping jacks or run on the spot for a couple of minutes to rev you up during the day (if you are working with others, perhaps get them to join in?) and do some squats or lunges in the kitchen as you wait for the kettle to boil.

Prevention Magazine offers some useful ways to bump up your activity levels during the day.
