The Irish Haemochromatosis Association (IHA) is holding its first awareness day on Thursday June 3rd. Haemochromatosis, a condition where the body absorbs excessive iron, is more common in Ireland than in any other country. Information stands will be available at 23 venues around the country. Abbot Mark Patrick Hederman of Glenstal Abbey is giving a lecture this week about how stories in religions can help people understand life on a spiritual level. The lecture will be held on Friday at 8pm in the Arts Building, Trinity College Dublin. €15.

Older people in Ireland is the theme of next Tuesday’s free Irish Times/Pfizer Health Forum. Irish Times assistant editor Fintan O’Toole will chair the debate.
