Christmas mood:Temple Bar in Dublin's city centre is getting in the Christmas mood with a free tour of the Old City at 6pm on Thursday. Galleries, shops and cultural centres will also be open late and there's a free screening of Christmas comedy Elf in Meeting House Square at 8.30pm with complimentary hot chocolate, popcorn and blankets for all.
Public lecture:Psychiatry Inside Out is a free public lecture on Franco Basaglia and his democratic model of psychiatry in the Health Sciences Building at the University of Limerick tonight at 6.30pm. It will be given by Prof Nancy Scheper-Hughes, professor of anthropology at the University of California, Berkeley and author of Saints, Scholars and Schizophrenics. Dr Pat Bracken, consultant psychiatrist and clinical director of the West Cork Mental Health Services, will also speak at the event.
Relationships:Understanding the Wisdom of Teenagers' Behaviour is a public talk on Thursday at 7pm in CreA Studio, The Quarry, Dublin Road, Celbridge, Co Kildare. It will be given by experienced relationship and parent mentors Paula McKenzie and Anne Brannick. Admission €15. See also parentsplace.ie
Safety checks:The Road Safety Authority is running free safety checks on all children's car seats outside shopping centres in Dublin, Cork, Tipperary and Clare this week. The locations are Nutgrove Shopping Centre, Rathfarnham (Thursday, 10am - 5pm); Mahon Point Shopping Centre, Cork (Friday, 10am-5pm); Texco Extra, Powerstown Centre, Clonmel (Sat 10am-5pm); and Lidl, Gort Road, Ennis (Sunday noon-6pm). Winter wellbeing:Ancient Irish healing rituals will be invoked in a winter wellbeing workshop on Saturday by Sinead Whyte, mantra and movement meditation teacher in the Lantern Centre, 17 Synge St, Dublin 8. Memorial service:SADS Ireland is holding a Christmas memorial service to remember all those young people who have lost their lives to sudden cardiac death.
