LIFESTYLE Q&A : Brian Kennedy, singer

LIFESTYLE Q&A: Brian Kennedy, singer

Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?

Mostly I do. I watch what I eat and I was very fortunate to meet my trainer who has a private gym in Dublin city centre about three years ago, so I attend there.

How often do you exercise?

These days I’m very exercise conscious, so when I’m not on tour I work out twice a week and then more recently I have been slotting in two separate days of cardio by myself on the cross-trainer and rowing machine. My other favourite way of exercising is walking, so I do that almost every day.

Do you get your five a day?

Yes I do. I’m not a huge fruit fan, but I always have things like blueberry protein shakes and I’m on a high-protein regime at the moment to complement training at the gym to burn more fat. I was a veggie for about nine years but I’ve rediscovered meat in a great way. I’ve always loved broccoli and spinach, so they are staples for me.

Do you worry?

Doesn’t everyone worry about something? I’ve lost three friends so far this year and it’s only May. Death puts things into serious perspective so I try not to let the worrying get out of control.

What do you do to relax?

I love a good movie, a great bottle of wine and the right company. I also love watching multiple episodes of DVD box sets in bed when I can't sleep, such as The Sopranosand Queer As Folk.

What do you consider to be your unhealthiest habit?

I tend to eat rubbish when I’m unhappy. I periodically eat too much bread. Occasionally I indulge in too much delicious cold beer, and salt and vinegar crisps go oh so well with that, so it’s a slippery slope.
