Gearóid Mac Donncha, presenter of current affairs show, Adhmhaidin, Radio na Gaeltachta
Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
Healthy-ish. I would say that I’m conscious of my diet and do a bit of exercise but I’m probably not as good as I could be. I’m not the worst either.
How often do you exercise?
We had our first baby in January so it means there isn’t as much time as there used to be. But every Monday I play indoor soccer for about an hour and a half and I would really go for it there, I don’t hold back. Then it’s the odd walk. I’m not the kind of guy who goes to the gym. If I’ve a football and there is interaction with other people, I enjoy it far more.
Do you get your five a day?
Yes, it’s something I’d be very conscious of. I’d always have fruit with my breakfast and I’d try to have an extra banana or apple here and there and plenty of veg with dinner.
Do you worry?
I’m not that kind of person to be honest with you. I take things as they come. People who get up on a Monday morning and worry about a problem still have a problem at the end of the week so you’re far better off trying to do something about it. And if you can’t do anything about it, there is no point worrying. That’s not to say that I’m worry free, but I tend to get on with things.
What do you do to relax?
I enjoy football and going to matches, anything to do with a ball. I enjoy a good film or TV drama – Game of Thrones and Lord of the Rings is pure escapism. I’m a non-drinker so the pub doesn’t hold anything for me, though I enjoy going and having the craic with the lads.
What’s your unhealthiest habit?
Biscuits, chocolate and desserts. When we go to a restaurant, my wife looks at the starters and main courses and I look at the mains and the desserts. I love a nice banoffi.
