Kathryn Thomas, presenter of Operation Transformation
Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
I have a fairly healthy lifestyle. I have to watch my weight because I’m prone to putting it on, but I would also say that’s because I love my food – going out for meals, the glasses of wine. What works for me is I’d be very clean during the week and throw all the rules out the window at the weekend.
How often do you exercise?
I’m in the gym twice a week for an hour where I do weight training with my trainer Siobhán, and I’d get a 7km-8km run in then once a week. Every day I’m out walking the dogs, which is exercise in itself.
Do you get your five a day?
I do. I don’t have to try too hard because I love fruit. I know there’s a lot of natural sugar in fruit, so I tend to stick to berries – strawberries, raspberries, blueberries – although I know they are expensive, it’s better financially to buy them in season. My favourite vegetables are broccoli and red cabbage. I’d experiment and put in spices as well.
Do you worry?
I suppose I would be a bit of a worrier. I can tend to dwell on things until something comes along to take me out of it. But I’m a positive person, so I’d say you can be a positive person and still worry, but talk your way out of it.
What do you do to relax?
Take the dogs for a walk, watch TV with a Chinese meal and a bottle of wine – that’s my Sunday routine – and I love to dance. You’d probably find me somewhere in Dublin on a Friday or Saturday night on a dance floor.
What’s your unhealthiest habit?
Without a shadow of a doubt, that’s cheese, because I eat a lot if it. It’s my biggest vice. I’m four days off cheese now and red wine doesn’t really taste the same without it.
