Ian Dempsey, host of the Ian Dempsey Breakfast Show on Today FM
Do you think you have a healthy lifestyle?
It’s a lot healthier than it used to be as I have to go for regular check-ups every few months so that my type 2 diabetes can be monitored. I try to eat better quality food and avoid anything that’s processed. I’m not obsessed by it and occasionally have “write-off” days, but I catch up the next day.
How often do you exercise?
Every day – laughing. It’s my job and it’s very good for you. We have a treadmill in the bedroom too, which has never been a gatherer of dust or a hanger for clothes I’m glad to say. Recently we had to have its belt replaced because of wear and tear – that has to be a good sign. With the weather getting a bit better, outdoor walking is something I should really get back to soon as well.
Do you get your five a day?
I have blueberries with my porridge every morning – about 20 of them. Orange juice, apples, broccoli, peas, carrots, bananas . . . I’d say I’m well over the quota.
Do you worry?
Yes, but not too much. I used to worry about stupid things but realised there’s really no point. Money is something that I worry about, but even that doesn’t stress me as much as it used to. I think the financial institutions have realised that you can only get so much from people and have now taken a more realistic and understanding approach to their customers.
What do you do to relax?
I listen to and interpret David Bowie songs, watch re-runs of Have I Got News For You and visit stationery stores such as Staples in New York.
What’s your unhealthiest habit?
Procrastination.
