Second phase: The second phase of the HSE's Hib booster vaccine campaign began yesterday. It offers the Hib booster vaccine to further protect children aged one-four years against Haemophilus influenza type B (Hib) infection.
Children aged two and three will now be called to receive the Hib booster vaccine, and parents will receive information from the HSE telling them when and how their child can get the booster.
The campaign's first phase began last November, when children aged one-two were vaccinated. The campaign will run until the middle of May.
The HSE says the booster vaccine was introduced in response to the small number of children who have developed Hib infection despite having been vaccinated against the disease.
All children reaching one year during the campaign are also being offered the Hib booster vaccine. Parents of children who have already received a dose of Hib or 5-in-1 vaccine after the age of 12 months should check with their GP to see if the Hib booster is necessary.
