Array of events for mental health week
A large number of events are being organised around the State to mark Mental Health Week next month. These include everything from choral singing to seminars on how to maintain good mental health.
In Limerick, several events are set to take place on October 6th-10th, organised by the Limerick Mental Health Association.
The events will be launched next Monday by rugby commentator George Hook in UL where students will attempt to break the world record for performing the Haka. Continuing the sporting theme, on Wednesday Irish Timessportswriter Tom Humphries will interview athlete Sonia O'Sullivan in the Perys Hotel, Glentworth Street at 7.30pm. Also on Monday, broadcaster Gareth O'Callaghan will give a talk entitled When life becomes too much.

New procedure for artery surgery
Irish patients undergoing surgery for blocked coronary arteries can now benefit from a new technique. Endoscopic vessel harvesting was carried out for the first time this month at the Blackrock Clinic, where cardiac surgeon Michael Tolan used a keyhole approach to take a vessel from a patient's leg before using it to replace a diseased artery in the heart. Until now, a long incision in the leg was necessary.
