ALLEVIATE DISTRESS: Dr Michael Corry, psychiatrist, psychotherapist and author, will give a free public talk, entitled The Healing of Mental Distress in Theatre P of the Newman Building, University College Dublin, tomorrow at 7pm.

PSORIASIS CONVENTION: Two consultant dermatologists and a GP will address the third annual convention of the Psoriasis Association of Ireland (PAI) in the Clarion Hotel, Limerick city on Saturday. LIVING WILL: The complicated battle that embroiled the American family of Terry Schiavo, kept alive on a life-support machine as she lay in a persistent vegetative state, could have been avoided if she had written a living will. A living will, also called an advance directive, contains instructions about medical treatment in the event that you lose the capacity to make decisions yourself. A workshop at the Dzogchen Beara retreat centre in Allihies, west Cork will address the issues around living wills from 8pm on Friday, September 29th to 1pm on Sunday, October 1st. HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY: Psychology: The Science of Behaviour and Mind is an evening course run by the School of Psychology, Trinity College Dublin, starting next month. Topics will include how babies learn to talk, stress and heart disease, brain imaging, creative thinking, effects of separation and divorce on children and human error and competence. Cost €300/€150.
