ACTIVITY AND BACK PAIN: Low back pain is the second most common reason - after the common cold - for people to take time off work. There is a lot of evidence to suggest that physical activity helps people overcome and/or manage low back pain. However, there is no universally accepted benchmark for measuring levels of activity in low back pain sufferers. A new research project involving University College Dublin, University of Ulster, Umea University in Sweden and University of Otago, New Zealand will measure physical activity using four different activity monitors with the aim of finding the most suitable way of checking exercise levels during and after rehabilitation.
