The lure of the bracelets: New research has shown that "ionised" (magnetic) wrist bracelets which are popular for the relief of musculoskeletal pain do not seem to produce any more benefit than placebo bracelets.
A trial involving more than 300 patients found that both placebo and ionised bracelets produced a significant subjective improvement in pain, but the ionised ones were no better than the placebo ones.

Stroke rehabilitation unit
The first specialised stroke rehabilitation unit in the east coast area will be opened in January by the Royal Hospital Donnybrook, in partnership with St Vincent's University Hospital and the East Coast Area Health Authority. It will have 12 rehabilitation beds, which will cater for stroke patients who have been medically stabilised in any of the main hospitals in the ECAHB region. It will provide a comprehensive stroke service to patients, from prevention to rehabilitation. The unit will also offer access to the first gait re-training machine to be installed outside continental Europe.
