Beat a path to 'The Power of Now' workshop

Eckhart Tolle's best-selling book, The Power of Now, will form the basis of a weekend workshop led by meditation teacher John Doherty in the Chrysalis Centre, Donard, Co Wicklow from January 30th to February 1st. The workshop will look at how "authentic human power is found by surrendering to the now" and will include guided meditations, group discussions and, of course, silence. Food course with a practical focus

Chef Maggie Lynch and nutritional therapist Richard Burton will host a "wholefoods for health" course, run over four Wednesday evenings from 7.30pm to 9.30pm, starting on January 28th. The course will include non-dairy creamy soups, wholegrain and pasta dishes and other vegetarian dishes. In the spring Lynch, who runs the Soul Food catering company, will run courses on how to cook 20 meals in 20 minutes and healthy fast food for children. Meditation to cope with illness

Mindfulness meditation has become a popular form of therapy for those coping with long-term chronic illnesses. Linda Lehrhaupt, the American founder and executive director of the Institute for Mindfulness-Based Approaches in Bedburg, Germany, will give information and practice days on mindfulness this weekend for education or healthcare professionals interested in training as mindfulness instructors.

The days will be held in the Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick city on Saturday and in the Marino Conference Centre, Marino, Dublin on Sunday. The cost is €80. Details on www.institute-for-mindfulness.eu

Stop smoking course starts

A six-week stop smoking course starts this evening at St Vincent's Hospital in Dublin. It will take place from 6.45pm to 8.30pm.
