Did you hear about mobile hearing tests?

One in 10 people risk permanent damage to their hearing if they listen to a personal music player at high volume for more than an hour a day over a long period of time, according to recent research.

People can avail of free hearing tests at six mobile centres throughout the State as part of Hearing Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday, February 1st.

Kick start your dancing

Kick Start 2009 is the title of a series of dance and movement workshops which will go ahead in Cultivate, 15-19 Essex St West, Temple Bar, Dublin on Saturday, February 7th, 10am to 11pm.

Participants can pre-book for workshops on tango, capoeira, salsa, belly dance, charleston, swing, t’ai chi, yoga and more.

Slow food for the little ones

The Slow Food Group in Limerick is hosting a Slow Food for babies and toddlers on Sunday at 3pm in the Hunt Museum, Limerick city.

Nutritionist Julie Dargan will speak about how to give children the best nutritional start in life, while psychotherapist Marianne Murphy will talk about the links between food and behaviour. Admission is free.

Invitation to the over-50s ball

The Macushla Dance Club, a dance club for over-50s residents in Dublin city centre, will hold a public social dance, The Blueschaser ball, on Friday night in St Agatha’s Hall, North William St, Dublin 1.

Since it was founded by choreographer Rionach Ní Neill in 2006, the club has held free weekly dance and exercise classes for older people in Dancehouse, Foley Street, Dublin and outreach classes throughout Dublin.

Helpline for arthritis sufferers Arthritis Ireland is launching a national helpline today for people with arthritis, manned by people who are themselves living with the condition. The new helpline will provide vital emotional and practical support and information.
