Exercise guidelines for adults

Every adult should accumulate 30 minutes or more of moderate intensity physical activity on most days of the week.

These are the current guidelines on healthy levels of exercise which emerged from last week's Nutrition Society annual meeting at University College Dublin.

"There is growing evidence that small amounts of exercise throughout the day can be as beneficial as putting aside a chunk of time to get active," says Dr Marie Murphy, of the University of Ulster, School of Sports Studies, who spoke at the meeting. For more details, see www.nutritionsociety.org
