Shopping with the over-65s
The corner shop may be set to make a comeback as our population ages. People over 65 find supermarkets difficult, due to crowded aisles and queueing, according to new research from the University of Ulster.
For older people, shopping is a chance for social interaction and local shops often provide a more personal service, according to researcher Lisa Meneely.
Northern fish oil supplement
A new fish oil supplement developed in Northern Ireland uses the addition of antioxidants from olive oil. "We take the antioxidants out of the olives and add it to the fish oil which contains Omega 3, 6 and 9," says Belfast-
based osteopath, Dr Geoff Hayhurst. Patients have reported improvements in all bodily systems. "Conventional fish oil supplements have vitamin E added, but the addition of antioxidants from olive oil helps mop up free radicals throughout the body," says Hayhurst, who developed Paradox Oils.
