Discussion on impact of genetics
The Secret of Life: Genetics in the 21st Centuryis the theme of a public symposium on Saturday from 11am-6pm at the Ballsbridge Inn (formerly Jury's), Pembroke Road, Dublin 4.
International experts will discuss recent advances in genetics and their impact on medicine, law, agriculture and our understanding of the human condition. Admission is €5 at the door. See also genetics50.org
European Shiatsu Week
European Shiatsu Week is on this week and shiatsu practitioners across Ireland are giving free taster sessions of this traditional Japanese hands-on treatment.
These include free neck and shoulder Shiatsu at 9 Henrietta St, Dublin 1, from 6.30pm-8pm tonight and on Thursday from noon to 6pm in the Bridge Mills in Galway city.
There will also be discounted shiatsu in the Cork Shiatsu Clinic on Wellington Road, Cork city on Friday and Saturday from 10am-6pm and a public information workshop on Shiatsu at 44 Adelaide Road, Dublin 2 on Saturday from 10am-5pm. See tryshiatsu.com for details.
Children's health and diet
A series of talks on children's health and diet and parenting will be held in the Littlejohn Clinic, 122A Cromwellsfort Road, Walkinstown, Dublin 12 on Saturday.

Getting a work-life balance
Career-focused professionals who have sidelined their personal health and wellbeing are being targeted at a health seminar on Saturday from 10am-5.30pm in the Ballsbridge Inn, Pembroke Road, Dublin.
Entitled Professionally Healthy, the seminar will examine how a nutritionally dense diet and an individualised exercise programme can help people be more productive in less time and with less effort.
