Increasing awareness of ARC services
A series of evenings to increase public awareness of the work of Arc Cancer Support Centre, Eccles St, Dublin 7 will be held in community venues in north Dublin over the next eight weeks.
The services at Arc include support and counselling, education and complementary therapies. They are freely available to anyone diagnosed with cancer, adult family members and friends. The talks will take place at 7.30pm in The Halfway House, Navan Road (Oct 13th), Jury's Croke Park Hotel (Oct 20th), Dominick St Community Centre, Lower Dominick St (Nov 3rd), St Gabriel's Community Centre, Clontarf (Nov 10th), Hardwick St Community Centre, Hardwick St (Nov 17th) and Ballymun Library, Main St, Ballymun (Nov 24th). Shopping with nutrition in mind
How to get the most from your food shopping is the theme of a free nutrition class tomorrow at 7.30pm in the Fitzwilliam Hotel, Stephen's Green, Dublin. The class is hosted by nutritionist Aveen Bannon who will help people interpret on-pack nutritional information. Raw food talk and tastings
Raw foods, sometimes described as "living foods", have become the latest health food craze across the world. American chef Frank Giglio will give a raw food preparation workshop on Friday at Neantot Farm, Cliffoney, Co Sligo, 9.30am-4.30pm, and a raw foods talk with tastings on Saturday at Tobergal Lane Cafe, Sligo town, 5.30pm-7.30pm. Coping with a chronic condition
Arthritis Ireland runs useful self-management courses for those who suffer from arthritis. Entitled Living Well with Arthritis, the courses, which are held once a week over six weeks, help people learn to cope with the various aspects of living with a chronic condition.
