Gum disease and tooth decay are the most common oral diseases worldwide. According to the Dental Health Foundation (DHF), recent studies have found links between gum disease and illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Taking proper care of your teeth is important for overall health. The DHF recommends the following twice-daily brushing routine, using fluoride toothpaste. Get brushing.

1. A gentle scrub using short, horizontal movements

2. A soft to medium-textured toothbrush

3. Hold the toothbrush in a pen grip to avoid using excessive pressure

4. Spit out toothpaste and do not rinse after brushing
